OPELOUSAS, La. — State police are investigating a shooting between a St. Landry Parish sheriff's deputy and a 61-year-old man stopped for a traffic violation.
Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says the deputy was driving northbound on I-49 when a vehicle pulled up behind so close it was hazardous.
Guidroz says the suspect passed the deputy and pulled off the interstate in the parking lot of a truck stop.

When the deputy approached the vehicle, Guidroz says the man fired two shots at the deputy and the deputy fired back.
The sheriff says no one was injured.
State police say Charles Martin of Oberlin was booked with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer.
It could not be determined whether Martin has an attorney.
