Jury selection begins for June trial of man charged with killing ex-Wayne High football coach

WAYNE, W.Va. — Jury selection in a Wayne County slaying case is being conducted two weeks before the trial begins due to the victim's popularity.

The move will allow time for another option if a fair and impartial jury can't be seated.

Clinton Douglas Skeens is charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of former Wayne High football coach Jess "Scott" Jarrell on Dec. 31, 2010. Authorities say the 73-year-old Jarrell was stabbed 43 times and died at his home.

Skeens is scheduled to stand trial June 4. Media outlets report that Circuit Judge Darrell Pratt scheduled jury selection for Tuesday and Wednesday.
