NEW CASTLE, Delaware — Authorities in Delaware say they're investigating after a pedestrian was killed in New Castle.

The Delaware State Police says it happened Saturday around 6:15 p.m. when 78-year-old woman walked into the westbound travel lane of Cox Neck Road, directly into the path of a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The Delaware State Police says the woman suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Delaware State Police identified the woman as Jean L. Caricchio of Newark. Authorities say a preliminary investigation has found that she was not in a marked crosswalk when she was struck.
