Suspended justice of the peace pleads not guilty to federal drug charges

ANACONDA, Mont. — Suspended Butte Silver-Bow County Justice of the Peace Robert Lee has denied 34 counts of fraudulently obtaining dangerous drugs.

Lee entered pleas denying 12 counts before District Judge Ray Dayton in Anaconda on Wednesday morning.

The Montana Standard reports Lee denied 22 other charges in an appearance before District Judge Loren Tucker in Boulder on Wednesday afternoon.

Dayton and Tucker allowed Lee to remain free on his own recognizance, but said he could not leave the state, contact any witnesses or use alcohol or drugs without a legal prescription.

Prosecutors in both Deer Lodge and Jefferson counties allege Lee obtained prescriptions for methadone from more than one doctor and filled them at different pharmacies in order to obtain more methadone.
