New trial start date scheduled for Des Moines man accused of fatally shooting neighbor

DES MOINES, Iowa — Another trial starting date has been scheduled for a man accused of fatally shooting a neighbor in Des Moines.

Online court records say the new date is Feb. 29 for 30-year-old Patrick Kirwan. He's pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder in the slaying of 35-year-old Mark Hruska. Officers say they found Hruska's body at a residence next to Kirwan's near the Des Moines International Airport on March 1. Police say they think the men had been arguing before the shooting.

Kirwan's trial had been set to begin on Sept. 14 and then on Dec. 7.
