BRIDGTON, Maine — Police say a 16-year-old Gorham High School student was one of the two people who died in a weekend car crash in Bridgton.

Police on Monday identified Branden Denis, a starting lineman on Gorham's football team, and 35-year-old Eric Morey, or Portland, as the victims of the crash on Route 302 south just before 6 p.m. Sunday.

They were both passengers in a car driven by Candice Tucker, who is Denis' mother. She was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

Chief Kevin Schofield says it appears as if Tucker was driving at high speed and trying to pass another vehicle when she lost control and struck a tree.

No charges have been filed.

Denis was remembered by his coaches and teammates Monday as a hard worker and quiet leader.
