TUCSON, Arizona — Authorities say an inmate at the state prison complex in Tucson has died from an apparent suicide.

Arizona Department of Corrections officials say 51-year-old John Kahler was found unresponsive in his housing location at about 8:50 a.m. Friday.

They say prison staff began lifesaving measures which were continued by paramedics.

However, Kahler was later pronounced dead at a Tucson hospital.

Corrections officials say Kahler was serving a five-year sentence out of Maricopa County on a conviction for arson of an occupied structure.

He had been in the state prison system since July.

Corrections officials say all prison deaths are investigated in consultation with the county Medical Examiner's Office.
