Eastern Pa. man sentenced to life in wife's slaying angrily vows appeal, says he was framed

READING, Pennsylvania — An eastern Pennsylvania man convicted in the shooting death of his wife 3½ years ago has been sentenced to life in prison despite his angry proclamation of innocence.

The Reading Eagle (http://bit.ly/10rmvyx ) says 54-year-old William Landis Jr. also vowed Wednesday in Berks County Court to appeal and accused prosecutors of framing him. He was convicted last month in the October 2009 death of his wife, Sharon, in their Spring Township home.

He spoke for 90 minutes despite repeated pleas from the judge, his attorneys and his three children to stop, saying "I am no sleazebag. I am an honest, trustworthy, husband."

Prosecutors said Landis fired three shots after the two argued. An eight-hour standoff ensued. Defense attorneys said the shots were fired accidentally during a struggle over the gun.
