St. Martin Parish authorities find body in car after 2 occupants flee

ST. MARTINVILLE, Louisiana — St. Martin Parish authorities are investigating the discovery of a body found in a vehicle after others in the car fled following a police pursuit.

Sheriff's Maj. Ginny Higgins says St. Martinville Police found the body early Tuesday after pursuing a "suspicious car" following reports of gunfire. Higgins, in a news release, said the pursuit ended when the car stopped abruptly and two men fled the vehicle and ran away.

The body of a man was in the car. Higgins says police do not know the age or identity of the victim.

The men who fled the car remain at large.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1mR5dGQ ) the incident began around 2:30 a.m.
