Georgia's unemployment rate drops to its lowest level in more than 7 years

ATLANTA — State labor officials say Georgia's unemployment rate has dropped to 5.7 percent, its lowest level in more than seven years.

The Georgia Department of Labor on Thursday announced the latest rate, which is the seasonally adjusted jobless rate for October. It is down from 6.8 percent a year ago.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said in a statement that an increase of 29,000 jobs helped push the state's unemployment rate to its lowest level in seven-and-a-half years.
