15-year-old Worcester boy shot by friend who knocked on apartment door first


WORCESTER, Massachusetts — Worcester police say a 15-year-old boy has been shot by a friend who knocked on the teen's apartment door and asked to see him before opening fire.

The victim shot at about 10 p.m. Tuesday was flown to a Boston hospital and is expected to survive. His name was not released.

Police, acting on information from the victim's family, arrested 20-year-old Gary Goyette at his home. Goyette is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on charges including armed assault with the intent to murder. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.

Investigators were told that several family members were inside the apartment with the victim when they heard knocking. According to witnesses, the victim and Goyette entered the hallway and talked for a minute before the shooting.

The motive remains unclear.
