Off-duty Dallas police officer shoots, kills stabbing suspect after witnessing confrontation

DALLAS — An off-duty Dallas police officer has shot and killed a man who authorities say had stabbed an employee of a towing business with whom he'd been arguing.

Police Maj. Jeff Cotner told The Dallas Morning News ( ) that Sgt. Jackie Moore was walking into work at police headquarters Friday morning when she witnessed the confrontation nearby.

Employees of the business told police the man was angry and pulled a knife when they told him to leave. The unidentified suspect repeatedly stabbed one of the workers.

Moore shot the suspect when he ignored orders to drop the knife. He died at the scene.

Cotner says police are "optimistic" the stabbing victim will recover.
