White Sox's Danks to come off disabled list, make his first start of season against Miami

CHICAGO — The Chicago White Sox say pitcher John Danks will be activated from the disabled list and make his first start in more than a year against Miami on Friday.

Danks is coming off a season-ending shoulder injury and has not pitched in a major league game since May 19, 2012. He had surgery in August to repair a capsule tear and remove debris in his rotator cuff and biceps.

To make room for Danks, the White Sox optioned left-hander Donnie Veal to Triple-A Charlotte after Wednesday's game against Boston. He is 1-0 with an 8.59 ERA in 14 appearances over two stints for Chicago.
