Harrison County grand jury clears 3 police officers of wrong-doing in fatal shooting

BILOXI, Miss. — A Harrison County grand jury has cleared three police officers of wrong-doing in the fatal shooting of an alleged armed robber and murder suspect.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/Je2wsB ) 56-year-old Carl Lance Wise died of a gunshot wound to the chest in a confrontation with the officers Jan. 21 after a pursuit ended on U.S. 90. Officials have said Wise jumped out of his truck with a knife and charged at the officers.

The grand jury found the shooting justifiable in a report signed Tuesday.

The officers were identified as Mike Wheeler and Louis Beck of the Biloxi Police Department and Sgt. Bryan Swann of the D'Iberville Police Department.
