Evacuation levels reduced for wildfire northwest of Richland, Oregon

RICHLAND, Oregon — The Baker County sheriff has reduced the evacuation level for those living in homes threatened by a wildfire northwest of Richland, Oregon.

Authorities, however, ask residents to remain aware and exercise caution.

The Dry Gulch fire has scorched nearly 30 square miles since Saturday; it is 20 percent contained.

Crews have been helped by rain and much cooler temperatures in Eastern Oregon, but winds from the southwest could be a problem Tuesday afternoon.

The cause of the wildfire has yet to be determined.
