Pedestrian crossing Long Island highway critically injured by car

LAKE GROVE, New York — Police say a Long Island man suffered serious head injuries after he was struck by a car while crossing a highway.

Suffolk County police say Harold Edelman of Medford was walking southbound across Nesconset Highway in Lake Grove when a Nissan Cube traveling eastbound struck him around 11:15 p.m. Monday.

The 70-year-old victim was taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the car was not injured. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

No charges were filed. The investigation is continuing.
