BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Tawarren Grant scored 22 points to help lead Mountain Brook to its second straight state title with a 60-57 victory over Blount in the Class 6A Boys State Championship game on Friday night.
Grant earned Most Valuable Player honors after finishing 8 of 13 from the field to help the No. 1 ranked Spartans (34-3) win the second title in school history.
Blount (27-4) carried a 42-41 lead into the fourth quarter and extended that lead to 49-43 with 3:45 remaining. The Spartans then stormed back and tied the game 51-51 off a free throw from Grant with 1:42 left.
Patrick Keim then put the Spartans up for good after recording a steal and hitting a 3-point shot to extend the lead to 54-51 with 1:12 remaining.
Divine Myles finished with 23 points to lead the No. 3 ranked Leopards while Antonio Chapman added 17 points.
