WICHITA, Kansas — Ericka Mattingly scored 14 points as Wichita-South took down Maize 47-35 on Saturday to win its second consecutive 6A girls basketball state title.
Eledria Franklin added 13 points and Kyla Callins 11 for Wichita-South (24-1).
Wichita-South led 16-12 at half, and outscored Maize 13-7 in the third quarter to open a double-digit lead entering the final period. The defending champs held Maize to single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters.
Maize made its first state championship appearance in program history. Daley Handy led Maize (20-5) with 15 points and Keiryn Swenson added 14 rebounds.
