National Park Service to reopen Washington Monument after repairs to elevator power

WASHINGTON — The National Park Service says the Washington Monument will reopen after a power problem that affected the elevator has been resolved.

Park Service spokesman Mike Litterst says the monument will open Friday as scheduled at 9 a.m.

The monument closed Thursday for workers to make repairs and restore the elevator service. The elevator has had problems in the past as well. In May, some passengers were stranded briefly after the elevator malfunctioned.
