Mattson, McIntyre lead North Dakota past Colorado College 5-1 in NCHC playoffs

GRAND FORKS, North Dakota — Nick Mattson had a goal and two assists as North Dakota beat Colorado College 5-1 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference playoffs on Friday.

Paul LaDue added a goal and an assist as top-ranked UND opened the best-of-three playoff series in impressive fashion. North Dakota (26-7-3) can wrap up the series with a win Saturday.

UND goalie Zane McIntyre made 21 saves. He gave up only Matt Hansen's goal at 2:14 of the third period.

Brendan O'Donnell scored for UND. North Dakota is 22-0-2 when leading going into the third period.

Connor and Tucker Poolman also scored for North Dakota, which is hosting its nation-best 13th straight first-round home series.

Tyler Marble had 21 saves and Chase Perry 10 for the Tigers (6-25-3).

North Dakota got four points from its defensemen, giving them 105 for the season.
