GRETNA, Louisiana — The board that oversees the Jefferson Parish inspector general's office says it opposes a proposed ordinance that would require the inspector general to request information from parish departments in writing.
The New Orleans Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1qDIRt8 ) several government watchdogs have said the requirement would compromise the office's ability to conduct investigations.
Members of the parish's Ethics and Compliance Commission voted unanimously Thursday against the restrictions, which were proposed by Parish Councilman Mark Spears, arguing they would impede the effectiveness of Inspector General David McClintock.
Spears' proposal is expected to be debated by the Parish Council when it meets next week.
