MONROE, Louisiana — A loss of students and midyear adjustments to the Minimum Foundation Program money distributed to local school districts will cost Ouachita Parish Schools about $700,000 before June 30.
The News-Star reports (http://tnsne.ws/1erEB7I ) Ouachita Parish School Board members learned about the decrease in funding in a board meeting on Tuesday.
MFP money is paid to districts based on student population. The total number of students in Ouachita Parish Schools has decreased by 176 students since last year.
Schools begin the school year with a projected number of students and are funded based on that number, but then official counts of students are taken in October and February and payments adjusted.
