ATTLEBORO, Massachusetts — An Attleboro man charged with breaking his 4-month-old son's leg has been held on $50,000 cash bail.
The Sun Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1hKuEGK ) reports that Ryan Ellis pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a charge of assault and battery on a child under 14 causing serious bodily injury.
The 22-year-old Ellis told police that the infant slipped from his shoulder as he was trying to burp him.
But doctors at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, where the child was brought Sunday, said the right leg injury was consistent with twisting it enough to break it.
The state Department of Children and Families has taken temporary custody of the child.
The father of the infant's mother defended Ellis as a "good kid" but a "klutz" and said the injury was accidental.
