SANTA FE, New Mexico — Republican Gov. Susana Martinez is joining a civic group for a weeklong trip to the East Coast to promote New Mexico.

The governor's office said Martinez is traveling with the New Mexico Amigos to New York City and Charleston, South Carolina. She will return next Friday.

The New Mexico Amigos is made up of business, community and state leaders who travel to promote economic development, tourism and other opportunities in New Mexico.

The nonprofit group will pay for the governor's expenses while she's with the group.

Martinez has joined the Amigos on their annual goodwill trip in previous years. In 2015, the New Mexico contingent made stops in Minnesota, Texas and California.
