Police: Central New York man involved in 3-day standoff at his home committed suicide

DANBY, New York — Authorities say a man who barricaded himself inside his central New York home last week during a three-day armed standoff killed himself with a gun.

The Ithaca Journal reports ( ) that the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office says autopsy results showed 36-year-old David M. Cady Jr. committed suicide in his home in the rural town of Danby.

The standoff began the night of Dec. 30 when deputies went to his home to arrest him for failing to appear in court after pleading guilty to drunken driving charges. His wife and two children were let out of the house on New Year's Day.

Officials say they discovered an arsenal of weapons and ammunition inside the home after they entered and found his body the morning of Jan. 2.
