DALLAS — A 20-year-old man suspected of shooting a Dallas police officer has been charged and bond has been set at $2 million.
WFAA-TV reports Sunday (http://bit.ly/1b9ZPLd ) that Rakeem Perkins is in the hospital being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg that he suffered during the gunbattle with police. Perkins had turned himself into police several hours after the Saturday shooting. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant.
The policeman, Officer Joshua Burns, remains at Baylor University Medical Center. The 30-year-old officer is in stable condition and being treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.
Perkins opened fire on Burns and another officer when they responded to a complaint about a disturbance. The officers fired back, and Perkins fled on foot.
