Norman A. Harber, 82, of East Base Road, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, February 8, 2015, at his home.

Norman was born July 18, 1932, in Colon, Panama, the son of William Albert and Katalina Astina-Harber. He married Carol Allen Sorrels April 14, 1984.

Norman was a veteran of the Navy and served in the Korean war. He retired from Cummins Engine Company after 30 years of service.

A member of both the VFW and the American Legion, he enjoyed bowling in leagues for many years, singing karaoke and listening to records and loved dancing.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Coleman officiating. Calling will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Just Friends Adult Daycare through the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Neil (Nancy) Harber of Houston, Texas; daughters, Kim Lohrke of Montana, Sherry (Jeff) Lewis of Columbus and Susan England of Southport; stepsons, James Sorrels of Columbus and David (Trish) Sorrels of Wyoming; a stepdaughter, Teresa Knops of Columbus; brothers, Paul (Janet) Harber of Georgia, Frank Harber and Albert Harber, both of Florida; sisters, Gladys Ferrante and April Cadorette, both of Florida; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Eddie Harber.
