County hires 2 new deputies

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department welcomed two new deputies, Jarod Aspenson and Jonathon Lanning, who were sworn in Tuesday by Sheriff Matt Myers.

Aspenson is a Bartholomew County native and graduated from Columbus North High School and Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington.

He is the son of Randy and Shelly Aspenson. His father is a retired Columbus Police Department officer and currently an instructor at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Jarod Aspenson is married to Emily Aspenson, also from Columbus.

Aspenson served in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving one tour in Afghanistan and working for the White House Communications Agency.

Previously, Aspenson worked as a Monroe County Corrections officer.

Lanning is a native of Batesville and 2015 graduate of Indiana University, where he majored in criminal justice and minored in psychology.

He was a part-time officer with Indiana University Police Department while attending college.
