Pitching prospect, ex-coach hosting camp

Former Columbus North star and current Baltimore Orioles minor-league pitcher Daniel Ayers and former North pitching coach Trevor Baty will host a pitching camp from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Wynne-Wynne Situation Sports Training.

The camp, which has been reduced from five weeks to one week, is open to any baseball pitchers age 9 through high school seniors. Cost is $100, with full payment due Monday.

North, East boys lacrosse to have open practices

Columbus North boys lacrosse will conduct an open practice from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the rugby field behind Parkside Elementary School for North boys lacrosse players and any high school boy wanting to try out the sport. Coach Alex Gorczya will run the practice.

The Columbus East boys lacrosse team will conduct open practices from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at the lacrosse practice field on the south side of the school. All current lacrosse players and any East student in grades 9 to 12 who want to try the sport are encouraged to attend. Coach Blake Manuel will run the practices.

Soccer program available to those with disabilities

Columbus East senior soccer player Andrew Thomasson is hosting TOPSoccer, a free, community-based training and team placement program for athletes with disabilities, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 28 at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.

The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to players 8 and older who have a mental or physical disability.

Saturday Morning Sports Injury Clinic available

Southern Indiana Orthopedics is offering its Saturday Morning Sports Injury Clinic from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays.

East Wrestling Club set to kick off season

Columbus East Wrestling Club practices will begin the week of Oct. 19 in the East wrestling room for Grades K to 6. There will be a parent informational meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 in Room 104 of East High School.

Beginner Group practices will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Advanced Group practices will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The first week is free, and if wrestlers are still interested, signups will begin the second week.
