Staff Reports

An Indianapolis man was injured when his pickup truck collided with a semi on Interstate 65 and rolled over several times, police said.

The pickup driver, identified as Rickey Mendenhall, 53, spun into the median at the 72-mile marker at 7:53 p.m. Friday while heading northbound between Columbus and Taylorsville, according to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

The semi driver, Ernie Martin of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, was not injured, sheriff’s department spokeswoman Judy Jackson said.

Mendenhall, who had been trapped in his vehicle, was extricated by Columbus Township Fire Department personnel, a news release from the sheriff’s department indicated.

Bartholomew County emergency dispatch reports indicated that all lanes of I-65 were closed, allowing a medical helicopter to land and transport Mendenhall to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

A hospital spokeswoman said Saturday afternoon that there was no information on Mendenhall’s condition that should could provide.

Seven sheriff’s deputies assisted as the scene, along with Indiana State Police and Columbus Regional Hospital emergency medical service.
