Kenneth R. “Kenny” Smith, 42, of Columbus, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Room.

Kenny was a member of The Crossing.

A 1991 graduate of Columbus North High School, he was employed with Cummins Engine Company as a plant layout designer at the Fuel Systems Plant. He enjoyed golf, fishing and bowling and was an avid fan of Hank Jr., the New York Yankees and IU basketball. When he was younger, he and his mother bowled together in the state family twosome finals, going on to the national family twosome championship in Washington, D.C. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and loved ones. His family was very special to him.

Kenny will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor, and his ability to bring joy and happiness into people’s life. He had an extended family and friends. He never met a stranger. He will be sorely missed by so many.

The funeral will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver, & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Hywell Thomas officiating.

Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Friends and family may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and also from 8:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jacob D. and Morgan D. Smith Trust Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Born in Columbus, May 14, 1973, Kenny was the son of Johnnie Eugene Smith and Sandra Mitchell Smith. On June 13, 1993, he married Victoria J. “Vicki” Dooley.

Survivors include his wife, Victoria J. “Vicki” Smith of Columbus; his mother, Sandra Smith of Columbus; children, Jacob D. Smith and Morgan D. Smith of Columbus; mother-in-law, Virginia Dooley of Columbus; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and several friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Eugene Smith, and father-in-law, Daniel E. Dooley.
