Local students serve as pages

Staff Reports

Several state legislators who represent Bartholomew County recently welcomed local student pages to the Statehouse.

Rep. Milo Smith, R-Columbus, welcomed Tasneem Mohamed, a student at Columbus East High School.

As a House page, Mohamed toured government offices, helped staff with daily duties and joined Smith on the House floor as Smith conducted business.

Sen. Greg Walker, R–Columbus, welcomed four Columbus students who served as Senate pages in February:

Molly Nelson, Northside Middle School

Grace Whaley, St. Bartholomew Catholic School

Jack Whaley, St. Bartholomew Catholic School

Kate Whaley, St. Bartholomew Catholic School

Sen. Chip Perfect, R-Lawrenceburg, welcomed four local students in February:

Annie Ashbrook, Hope, Hauser Junior-Senior High School

Gwen Shoaf, Hope, Hauser Junior-Senior High School

Kortney Wallace, Hope, Hauser Junior-Senior High School

Ramon Becker, Scipio, Jennings County High School

Pages spend a day at the Statehouse touring the historic building, observing debates from the chamber floor and interacting with their state senators.

With the recent conclusion of the 2016 legislative session, this year’s page program has ended.
