Gracie Hendry

Columbus

Gracie Louise Hendry, 88, of Columbus, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2017, at Hickory Creek in Columbus.

Before retiring, she had worked as a CNA, a sewist at Roviar and a school bus driver for handicapped students. Over the years she became a master seamstress which later led to the ownership of her own embroidery business. Gracie was more handy with tools than her husband and learned to fix everything. Attending church, camping, gardening and sewing were among Gracie’s favorite things to do. However, spoiling her grandbabies was a top priority.

Mrs. Hendry was born in Brown County, Indiana, June 18, 1928, to the late George and Clara Crouch Reeves.

She married Robert Dean Hendry on August 30, 1946, and together they had four children.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Hendry; sisters, Rose Walker, Ruth Marshall and Shirley Nott; sister-in-law, Maxine Reeves; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Gracie was also blessed to have three of her granddaughters to live locally – Amia Hendry, Katiya Hendry Cox and Jessica Hendry – who were devoted to her care and comfort.

Mrs. Hendry was preceded in death by her sons, Gregory Hendry, Douglas Hendry and Mart Hendry; grandson, Scott Hendry; granddaughter, Wendy Stancombe, great-grandson, Lee Even Cox; sisters, Dolly Hull, Margie Renau and Rita Hardin; and brother, Harold “Bud” Reeves.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Minister of The Gospel, Larry Bogard officiating. Calling will be from 12 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
