Flood warnings continue for local rivers

Flood warnings continue for the East Fork White River and Driftwood River in Bartholomew County, emergency management officials said.

The National Weather Service said the warning on the East Fork White River continues through Friday afternoon. At 10 a.m. Thursday, the river was at 9.1 feet, with flood stage at 9 feet. Minor flooding is occurring, resulting in the closing of Mill Race Park, Noblitt Park and portions of the People Trail, the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department reported.

The weather service said the East Fork White River will rise to nearly 9.3 feet Thursday afternoon and then begin falling below flood stage sometime Friday.

Minor flooding has resulted from the Driftwood River near Edinburgh, which remains under a flood warning until Friday night, said Shannan Hinton, director of Bartholomew County Emergency Management.

At 10:30 a.m. Thursday, the Driftwood was at 14 feet, with flood stage at 11 feet, Hinton said.
