1) As a fitting bridge to the exhibition portion of the Exhibit Columbus temporary architectural works event, I suggest local artist Kathryn Armstrong’s free, current display through Aug. 15 at Gallery 506 inside the Columbus Area Visitors Center. “Finding Connections: Works on Paper inspired by Alexander Girard’s Textiles” highlights the former Herron School of Art and Design instructor’s sketches and paintings, done over the past decade, loosely linking to the world-renowned designer who left a huge mark on Columbus. The Miller House and late industrialist and philanthropist J. Irwin Miller’s office serve as just two good examples. Information: 812-378-2622.
2) Seeking a simple, inexpensive way to beat the heat? You can glide and chill during the next public skate sessions this weekend at Hamilton Center Ice Arena, 2501 Lincoln Park Drive in Columbus. Sessions are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $4 for children and $4.50 for adults with $2 skate rental. Information: 812-376-2686.
