Columbus police arrested a southern Indiana man after a vehicle pursuit on State Street.
Officers saw Benjamin J. Perry, 36, of Georgetown, driving west on State Street at 5:45 p.m. Thursday and knew that he had two warrants for his arrest, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Perry refused to pull over and continued traveling west on State Street, Harris said. He eventually stopped in the 3000 block of State Street, where a high-risk traffic stop was conducted, Harris said.
Perry initially ignored commands from officers to show his hands, although a short time later he exited the vehicle and was arrested, Harris said. While searching Perry’s vehicle, officers found marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Harris said.
He was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator for life, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting law enforcement in a vehicle and two Bartholomew County warrants, Harris said.
He is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $29,500 bond, jail officials said.
