Large pothole damages cars on interstate south of Columbus

Work crews are preparing to reopen the left lane of northbound Interstate 65 near the 66 mile marker south of Columbus this afternoon after a large pothole caused damage to as many as seven cars’ tires overnight.

There is currently a nine-mile backup behind the work to fix the pavement, according to the Indiana State Police. Police are warning motorists to expect traffic delays in the area for some time Friday afternoon.

Work crews had closed one lane of the interstate for several hours today to repair the pavement, which caused the slowdown, police said. Some motorists opted for State Road 11 to avoid the interstate delays, which also slowed traffic on that state highway near Columbus.
