Irene Caudill

Irene Caudill, 79, of Columbus, passed from this life at 5:40 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Caudill was born January 28, 1939, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, the daughter of Chester and Julia Whitaker Ison. She married Clyde Caudill May 27, 1967. He preceded her in death April 7, 2000.

Mrs. Caudill received a bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Kentucky University and later received a master’s degree from Indiana University.

Mrs. Caudill was an elementary school teacher for 36 1/2 years, with the majority of those years being spent at Taylorsville Elementary.

A devout Christian, Mrs. Caudill was a member of the Chester Hogg Memorial Baptist Church in Charlestown, Indiana.

She enjoyed membership in the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.

Being very family oriented, she cherished the time she spent with her family and she was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren.

She enjoyed traveling and she was an avid fan of UK basketball.

Mrs. Caudill is survived by her children, Pat Caudill and his fiance, Amy Puckett of Columbus, and Julia (James) Euler of Columbus; her loving grandchildren, Ally, Jessica, and Gunnar Caudill and Macy and Reese Euler; brothers, Bob Ison of Charlestown, Quenton (Yvonne) Ison of Columbus, and Doc (Joan) Ison of Marysville; sisters, Mary Kilburn of London, Kentucky, Barb (Fred) Watts of Marysville, and Doris Ison of Columbus; her former daughter-in-law, Missy Caudill of Lexington, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mrs. Caudill was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde; brothers, Elmer, Venon, James, and George Ison; and sisters, Anna Mae Ison and Mattie Miller.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.

Family and friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday.

Burial will be at Dupont Cemetery in Dupont, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
