The Columbus, Indiana Walk to End Alzheimer’s planning team has begun its process to plan for the 2018 Columbus walk scheduled for early Sunday afternoon Sept. 30 at Mill Race Center.
We are excited about this year’s walk and fundraising leading up to the walk, with a total fundraising goal of $98,500 and a target of 600 walkers.
The team has met with community leaders and sponsors and held preliminary marketing/outreach and planning committee meetings. Planning and implementation of the walk covers six to seven months prior to Sept. 30, and residents will soon begin seeing committee members around Columbus in our Walk to End Alzheimer’s T-shirts at several events to promote and raise funds for the walk. For example, residents will see us at this year’s farmers market, team captain retention and development meetings, dine-to-donate meals, bake sales, etc.
But, the committee need help of Columbus residents to provide care and support to those facing Alzheimer’s. Worldwide, an estimated 47 million people are living with Alzheimer’s, and in the U.S. alone, more than 5 million live with the disease and over 15 million are acting as caregivers.
The association uses donated funds to provide a free, nationwide 24/7 helpline (800-272-3900), online message boards, support groups for patients and caregivers and for research.
Residents can help by visiting alz.org/Walk to learn more about our walk, becoming a walker, a team captain or a fundraiser to help fight this disease. Yes, our walk needs Columbus residents.
