NORTH VERNON — Two people were arrested on drug-related charges after North Vernon police were called to the 200 block of South Madison Avenue about a drug odor.
Officers went to the area at 3 p.m. Saturday, leading to the arrest of Jason S. Proffitt, 27, North Vernon, and Austin L. Woodson, 21, North Vernon, police said.
Sgt. Andrew Richmond was on patrol in the Madison Avenue area when he noticed a strong odor of marijuana, police said. After determining the odor was coming from a shed at a residence, he called for assistance from officers Mike Holliday and Shane Lakins. The officers made contact with Proffitt and Woodson after they left the shed, police said.
Woodson had a marijuana cigarette and Proffitt had a small bag of methamphetamine, a syringe and several packets of heroin, police said. When searching the shed, officers found more marijuana and 6.5 grams of methamphetamine, police said.
Proffitt was arrested on preliminary charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of a controlled substance, felony possession of a syringe and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia, police said. Woodson was arrested on preliminary charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, police said.
