Sam Meek, Hauser senior baseball player
Meek threw a one-hitter and struck out 21 batters — one off the state record and the most in Indiana since 2005 — in a 6-0 win against Southwestern (Shelby). On Friday, he went 3 for 4 in an 18-5 win at Southwestern.
His performance last week: “I thought it was a pretty good week. I was able to control pitches the way I wanted to.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just do the same routine every day. I work to make sure my arms are loosened up.”

Tessa Sims, Hauser senior softball player
Sims went 3 for 3 with two triples and three RBIs in a 15-0 first-game win and 4 for 4 with two triples and two RBIs in a 12-0 second-game win against Southwestern (Shelby). Saturday, she threw a six-hitter in an 11-1 win against Madison.
Her performance last week: “I thought I did pretty well. We came in, and we got three wins, which was pretty good.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “If it’s an away game, we just listen to music on the bus and try to get pumped up. I try to take naps when I go home (before home games), too.”
Favorite drink: “Big Red”
Favorite food: “Tacos”
Favorite book: “The Memory Keepers Daughter”
Favorite class: “Math”
Role model: “My dad (Hauser coach Craig Sims).”
Best advice: “Never give up, and just try your hardest because one day, you won’t be able to do this anymore. Just be grateful for what you have.”
Athletics goal: “Our ultimate goal is to win state, and to continue playing softball the next four years (at Indiana State).”
If you could travel anywhere: “I would probably go to Hawaii because it seems really pretty over there.”
