Stamp Out Hunger Saturday

Stamp Out Hunger with food drive

The 26th annual national Stamp Out Hunger food drive will take place Saturday.

All Bartholomew County residents are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag containing nonperishable food items such as canned soup, canned vegetables, peanut butter, pasta, rice or cereal next to their mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery Saturday.

Letter carriers will collect these donations and take them to local food banks.

According to federal estimates, about 50 million Americans live at risk of hunger. That includes nearly 16 million children in America, as well as about 5 million seniors who often face choices between paying rent, utilities and having nutritious food.

Considered the nation’s largest single-day food drive, Stamp Out Hunger has collected about 1.5 billion pounds of food since the event began in 1993.
