Woman arrested after restaurant incident

Columbus police arrested a local woman who was accused of attempting to leave a downtown Columbus restaurant without paying for her meal.

Officers were sent to the 300 block of Washington Street at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday about a woman acting suspiciously at the restaurant, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The woman provided a false name to officers, but they later confirmed her identity as Erica D. Burton, 34, of 3819 Longshore, Harris said. Officers also determined she had a Bartholomew County warrant pending for her arrest.

Burton was arrested on preliminary charges of false informing, false identity statement and the warrant, according to the police department.

She was being held at the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $9,250 bond, jail officials said.
