BCSC promotes Schmitt assistant to principal

The Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. has promoted an educator to become principal at Schmitt Elementary School this fall.

Kaity Day, 32, was named by the BCSC school board on Monday as the new principal at Schmitt, where she currently serves as assistant principal.

She replaces Brett Boezeman, who was named last month as the district’s new director of operations. Boezeman will replace Steve Forster, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Day has been with BCSC since 2008, serving as assistant principal at Schmitt since 2014 and has also taught kindergarten, in addition to third, fourth and sixth grades. Day, who was joined by her husband Devin and their son Tucker at Monday’s meeting, thanked Boezeman for his leadership.

“I’ve learned to always put the needs of students first,” she said. “I’ve had so many teachers in my life that have shaped who I am.”

She said she is excited for the opportunity to serve as principal. She will earn $101,128 in her new position, which takes effect July 1.

“The staff here at Schmitt truly cares deeply for our students and families and I am so blessed to have an opportunity to lead in a building that I know and love,” Day said.
