A local man was arrested after he led Columbus police officers on a high speed chase.
Officer Matt Prendergast stopped a vehicle on Jonathan Moore Pike near the I-65 interchange at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday for failing to signal a lane change, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
The driver, William R. Bowen, 67, Columbus, claimed to be having a medical emergency, and instead, refused an ambulance and sped away.
Prendergast followed Bowen at a high rate of speed as Bowen drove east on Jonathan Moore Pike before turning south on Jonesville Road, Harris said. Bowen later lost control of his vehicle near Jonesville Road and County Road 550S, where his vehicle went down an embankment and went into a corn field, Harris said.
Bowen was arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, intimidation and reckless driving.
