Panthers move to final

GREENSBURG — Jennings County pulled out a three-set win at No. 3 singles Friday to claim a 3-2 win against Greensburg in the semifinals of the Greensburg Sectional.

Ellie Hearne beat Emma Hellmich 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (14-5). Maddy Hill and Callie Wilder downed Kirsten Fong and Claudia Westhafer 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Courtney Lykins and Abigail DeCamp topped Sarah Schneider and Ellie Acra 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Jennings’ Rebecca Driver fell to Raegen Rigney 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Hailey Brown lost to Bailey Menkedick 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

The Panthers will play Madison Shawe in the sectional final at 10 a.m. today. The Hilltoppers edged Jennings 3-2 in the season opener.

Eagles blank Pirates

NASHVILLE — Emma Summers threw a one-hitter and struck out 13 Friday to lead Brown County to a 10-0, six-inning win against Charlestown to close the regular season.

Aubrey Hollander went 2 for 3 with a double, and Kylie Herald went 2 for 3 for the Eagles (15-3). Allison Stogsdill went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Sara Fishel had a double and two RBIs.

Panthers win sectional

BEDFORD — Jennings County won Thursday’s Bedford North Lawrence Sectional, scoring 109 points to 94 for the host Stars and 93 1/2 for both Seymour and Springs Valley.

Dalton Craig led the Panthers with wins in the 1,600 meters (4 minutes, 41.11 seconds) and 800 (2:01.99). Carter Leak took the 3,200 (10:00.48), and Jason Gasper, Ryan Gasper, Franklin Sanders and Craig captured the 4×800 relay (8:29.63).

Finishing second for Jennings were Blaich Blanton in the discus (138 feet, 9 inches), Isaiah Ertel in the 300 hurdles (41.98) and Sanders in the 3,200 (10:20.98). A.J. Siener also advanced to the Bloomington North Regional with a third-place finish in the 1,600 (4:45.48).

Trinity Lutheran finished with 11th with 17 points. AJ Goecker qualified with a third-place finish in the 800 (2:03.41).

Eagles take fifth

BLOOMINGTON — Brown County finished fifth in Thursday’s Bloomington North Sectional with 48 points. Bloomington South won with 144.

Wyatt Wyman won the 800 (1:56.36) and teamed with Isaiah Keefauver, Marino Dolph and Jackson McPheeters to claim the 4×800 relay (8:00.16). McPheeters also qualified for the Bloomington North Regional with a third-place finish in the 800 (1:57.28).

East, North get callbacks

Several Columbus North and Columbus East athletes who finished outside the top three in Thursday’s North Sectional have earned callbacks to the Franklin Regional.

Earning callbacks for the Bull Dogs are Preston Terrell in the long jump, Logan Abbott in the shot put, Noah Kestler in the 300 hurdles, Hunter Spalding in the 200 and Charlie Allen in the 3,200.

The Olympians Luke Poindexter earned a callback in the high jump, as did East’s 4×800 and 4×400 relay teams.
