VP Pence visits Indiana National Guard troops

Staff Reports

Vice President Mike Pence recently visited Indiana National Guard troops in Indiana, where he served as their commander-in-chief when he was governor.

The Columbus native stopped by the Guard’s 38th Infantry Division, where soldiers were training in a command-and-control exercise intended to maintain readiness.

His May 18 visit was one day prior to Armed Forces Day.

“Today we are grateful for everyone who puts on the uniform, including in our all-volunteer Army,” Pence said in a short speech to the Guard members. “Whether you put on the uniform to protect your community at home or whether you put on the uniform to protect the nation, I assure you that the people of this country are grateful and proud of your service.”

The 38th Infantry Division’s current training is for a possible overseas mission.
