COLUMBUS
Dick Mikel, 74, of Columbus, stepped into His eternal peace Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Dick was born April 26, 1944, in Seymour, the son of Richard and Faye Muster Mikel. He married the former Betty Bohannon March 18, 1983, and she survives.
After graduating from Seymour High School in 1963, Dick enlisted in the US Air Force. When his enlistment ended in 1967, he attended A & P School in Oklahoma and returned to Seymour in 1968 to work at Rhoades Aviation. Dick eventually transferred to the Columbus Airport where he continued to work for Rhoades until his retirement in 2012.
When Dick was younger, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Dick loved spending time with is family, especially his grandchildren. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife; together they visited 49 of the 50 states.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Long officiating. Calling will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery with military honors presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to the Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Mikel; sons, James Lazzell and Jason Lazzell, both of Columbus; a sister, Donna (Gary) Greathouse of Freetown; grandchildren, Skylar (Ali) Elkins, Benjamin Lazzell, Cheyanne Lazzell, Logan Lazzell, Jacob Lazzell, Alexa Day and Tristan Lazzell; and great-grandchildren, Gavin Elkins, Anni Elkins and Nova Jo Elkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Likens.
