Pillar to provide keynote at Moving Wall dedication

Retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Mark Pillar of Columbus will be keynote speaker at Saturday’s dedication for The Moving Wall in Lawrence.

The Moving Wall is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. Pillar’s speech will be at 1 p.m. and will include a flyover by Vietnam-era helicopters. The event, on the east side of Indianapolis, is free.

Pillar was commissioned after graduating from the University of Evansville ROTC in 1971. His first operational assignment was at Da Nang Air Base in Vietnam where he logged 90 combat missions flying an EC-47 intelligence gathering aircraft. After Vietnam, Pillar flew a variety of aircraft and was assigned senior command positions, eventually attaining the rank of Major General before his retirement.

The Moving Wall exhibit appeared at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds in Columbus for four days last July.
