Joseph Lee Hart, 70, of Kennedy Circle, died at 5:27 p.m. May 31, 2018, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Joseph was born April 3, 1948, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the son of Clifford H. and Bette Holdridge Hart. He married Carolyn Boyle August 2, 1975.

He was a veteran of the US Army, having served 1970 to 1973, and a graduate of University of Nebraska. Joseph worked for Cummins Engine Co. and Cummins Accounts as a computer systems specialist.

He was a member of Community Church of Columbus where he had taught Sunday school at the kindergarten and first grade level. He also helped with Vacation Bible School at the church and volunteered at Turning Point.

Joseph enjoyed camping, woodworking, and most of all, serving others. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was an avid Andy Griffith fan.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Coleman officiating. Military rites will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Calling will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; son, Brian Joseph Hart of Chicago; daughters, Sarah (Kevin) Wierschke of Burke, Virginia, and Emily (Erik) Nelson of Indianapolis; brothers, Herb (Winnie) Hart of Colorado and Tom (Doreen) Hart of North Carolina; a sister, Bette Fundenberger of Missouri; and grandchildren, Samantha, Danielle and Luke Wierschke, and Eli and Everett Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Easterling.
